Chrome DevTools for agents chrome-devtools-mcp-v1.11.0
Record a browser page as MP4 video without installing ffmpeg.
Before you upgrade to chrome-devtools-mcp-v1.11.0
9 to fixWithout `--config`, load the first discovered plugin or global JSON config. CLI flags override file values; files are not merged. Set `CHROME_DEVTOOLS_MCP_NO_CONFIG_DISCOVERY` to disable discovery.
Heap names are truncated to 100 characters by default; raise `maxNameLength` to see longer names. Comparisons now paginate results.
For heap pagination, supply integer `pageIdx` >= 0 and integer `pageSize` > 0; negative, fractional and zero-size values are rejected.
Update structured-output consumers: aggregate results use `heapSnapshotAggregates` (an array) instead of `heapSnapshotData`; comparison totals are under `heapSnapshot.classDiffStats`, and class differences are paginated.
`performance_stop_trace` reports an error when no trace is active instead of returning silently.
Supply positive integer `width` and `height` to `resize_page`, and positive dimensions for `--viewport`; invalid dimensions are rejected.
Use the third-party developer tools category for debugging WebMCP tools; `list_webmcp_tools` excludes them. Update `execute_webmcp_tool` output consumers from `errorText` to `error`, which also surfaces exceptions.
Pass `input` as a JSON object, not a JSON array, to `execute_webmcp_tool`; arrays are rejected.
Pass `params` as a JSON object, not a JSON array, to `execute_3p_developer_tool`; arrays are rejected.
Replace regexp groups, named groups (`:name`) and partial IPv4 wildcards in `--allowed-url-pattern` or `--blocked-url-pattern` with exact values or supported `*` wildcards; these patterns now fail validation.
Remove `--allow-unrestricted-paths` when using an explicit `--filesystem-root` or `--workspace`; unrestricted access and explicit roots now conflict.
Text snapshots omit redundant StaticText children and repeated option data. Request a verbose snapshot to retain redundant text children.
Pass only one file path to `upload_file` for single-file inputs; multiple paths are rejected.
A failed `responseFilePath` write reports the write error instead of claiming the response body is unavailable.
What changed in chrome-devtools-mcp-v1.11.0
Screencast tools are enabled by default with built-in MP4 recording; the old ffmpeg flag selects a deprecated backend. Configuration discovery, URL-pattern validation and WebMCP error output also change.
Also: Load scripts from local files, emulate CSS accessibility preferences, inspect closure memory retention, and read failing Lighthouse audits inline.
Install [email protected] from npm; requires Node.js LTS, npm and current stable Chrome or newer. Built-in recording needs Chrome screen-recording support; memory analysis requires --memory-debugging.
New things you can do
Disable server-performed navigation to local files with `--no-file-navigations`.
Fixed and improved
Record MP4 video without ffmpeg or an opt-in flag; recordings use the page's device-pixel dimensions. Set frame rate with `--screencast-fps`.
CLI and JSON config values are merged before defaults are applied; the CLI also accepts configuration-file settings.
Load JavaScript from local `sourcePath` instead of inline `function`; choose `format: script` for classic scripts or the default `function` format. Supply exactly one source; script format does not accept `args` or ECMAScript modules.
Rank closure contexts holding dead captured fields with `analyze_heapsnapshot_contexts`; filter by scope or retained-size score. Paginate `compare_heapsnapshots` with `pageIdx` and `pageSize`.
Loaded heap snapshots survive browser reconnections, and aggregate IDs are deterministic.
Set `ignoreCache: true` with `reload: true` on `performance_start_trace` to measure a cold load without the HTTP cache.
Emulate `forcedColors`, `prefersContrast` and `prefersReducedMotion` CSS media features with `emulate`.
Read failing Lighthouse audits and flagged DOM nodes directly in the response; full reports are still saved to disk. Category scores are rounded and unscored categories show `n/a`.
Enable `--category-extensions` when connecting to an existing browser through auto-connect, browser URL or WebSocket.
List and execute debugging WebMCP tools through `list_3p_developer_tools` and `execute_3p_developer_tool`.
URL allow/block policies are enforced across redirects.
CLI mode honors explicit `--allowUnrestrictedPaths=false` instead of overriding it with unrestricted access.
Downscaled screenshots account for page scroll offsets.
Input-action responses report pages opened by the action.
`list_pages` returns fresh page titles.
PWA launch waits for initial navigation, and installation retries a transient install error.
Slim responses include tool error messages.
Pass positional values starting with `-` through to tools, and stop the CLI even after a command fails.
Long-running tool calls no longer close a healthy browser after 60 seconds; calls on dead connections fail instead of hanging.
