Check updates before you upgrade

For Arch Linux and Arch-based systems: Omarchy, EndeavourOS, Manjaro, CachyOS. When pacman has updates waiting, the osfeed command lists what each one changes and what you have to fix first: a renamed option, a removed flag, a new requirement.

What you see

$ osfeed
hyprlock 0.9.4 → 0.9.6 https://osfeed.dev/p/hyprwm/hyprlock
  Before you upgrade
    • Configs with general:grace: the option is gone; pass --grace on the command line. [v0.9.0]
  New
    • Click or tap a label, image or shape on the lock screen to run a command. [v0.9.0]

Only tools with a page on osfeed have notes.

Install

curl -fsSL https://osfeed.dev/install.sh | sh

The download is checked against the release's checksums. Then run osfeed whenever updates are waiting.

Have it run on its own

Before every upgrade

Install it with the pacman hook, and pacman prints the notes before it upgrades anything.

curl -fsSL https://osfeed.dev/install.sh | sh -s -- --hook

In your bar

A Waybar module shows how many pending updates need your attention. Setup and source: github.com/iluxav/osfeed-cli.

Not on Arch?

The command installs on other Linux systems and macOS too, but there it looks up one package at a time: osfeed notes hyprlock 0.9.4 0.9.6. Homebrew, apt, dnf and Flatpak are planned. The data is public: https://osfeed.dev/api/v1/upgrades?pkg=hyprlock:0.9.4:0.9.6
