Switch between windows by recency, search their titles and apps, and browse a map of your workspaces.

What you can do with Fathom

Switch windows through a stack ordered by how recently you used them.

2 other tools for switch windows
Since v0.3.0
Good to know

New windows join the next switch; recency resets when the shell restarts. Off-screen windows show a last-seen frame or icon, not a live preview.

Find a window by typing its app, title or workspace and focus the result.

Good to know

Windows opened during browsing join the next switch; `Escape` clears the filter before closing.

Locate windows on a map of workspaces and switch to a workspace's most recent window.

3 other tools for workspace overview
Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Off-screen previews use in-memory last-seen frames or icons; the map does not capture independently.

Pick a window by how long ago you used it using a clickable depth gauge.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Ages are unknown after a shell restart until focus changes; the depth scale is clamped at eight units.

Finish window switching by releasing Alt on keyboards with remapped modifier keys.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Use the Lua bindings for quick switching; with legacy `hyprland.conf`, a switch too quick to capture the keyboard stays open until `Enter` or `Escape`.

Read window titles, app names, workspace names and filters as literal text.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Only a desktop entry's own `Icon` may supply an icon file path; a path-like window app ID or class falls back to a lettered tile.

Browse windows with your Omarchy theme and wallpaper, with optional corner and border overrides.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Wallpaper changes appear on the next opening. Empty, negative or nonnumeric size overrides fall back to shell values; zero is supported.

Skip scratchpad windows while cycling through the window stack.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Scratchpads remain visible on the map and are included in the stack by default.

Open and control the window overview from custom bindings and inspect its state from the shell.

Since v0.3.0
Good to know

Requires the enabled plugin and `omarchy-shell`; bindings changes take effect after a Hyprland config reload.

Details

The grouped v0.2.0–v0.3.0 launch provides Alt+Tab navigation, workspace maps and text filtering, with fixes for remapped Alt, sideways scrolling and literal labels. v0.3.0 adds wallpaper, live `[fathom]` settings and watchdog state reporting.

Also: Search windows, select by age, skip scratchpads, match the desktop appearance and inspect switching from the shell; includes keyboard and title-handling fixes.

v0.3.0: Omarchy 4.0+, Quickshell 0.3+, Qt 6.9+, Hyprland 0.56+. Install with `omarchy plugin add https://github.com/mtolhuys/fathom --enable`, then add the README's Lua bindings block last in `bindings.lua`; reload Hyprland after binding updates.
