Send and receive files with nearby iPhones, iPads, and Macs from the Omarchy bar or command line.
What you can do with Omdrop
Receive files from nearby Apple devices into a chosen folder and open them from notifications.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Requires supported Broadcom AWDL hardware and the patched driver; transfers default to 30% of free space and preserve at least 1 GiB.
Choose a receiving window of one file, a set time, or until you turn receiving off.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Receiving exposes the configured device name; Everyone is the default audience.
Send one or several files to a nearby Apple device from the panel or command line.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Folders must be compressed first; duplicate basenames are refused. Sending to Contacts Only needs an existing Apple-issued identity and recognition by the recipient.
Find nearby Apple devices by name and signal strength before choosing a recipient.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Radar indicates signal strength, not direction or distance. Name lookup connects to devices and announces over Bluetooth; `--no-wake` only finds devices already listening.
Cancel a file send or stop a device-name lookup without leaving its Bluetooth announcement running.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Cancellation cannot undo files already delivered.
Accept incoming files only from Apple ID email addresses or phone numbers on your known-senders list.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
An empty list refuses everyone; discovery hiding is best-effort, and iOS may show a refused transfer as Waiting. Receiving from known senders does not require your own Apple-issued identity.
Open received web links from their notification or by double-clicking the link file in Files.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Only HTTP and HTTPS URLs open; other schemes are refused. Existing user-selected file-type defaults are preserved.
Set up receiving and the command-line launcher when turning Omdrop on for the first time.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Driver installation needs administrator authentication; setup opens TCP 8771 on `awdl0` for IPv6 link-local traffic.

Distinguish a stalled upload from a slow upload using the receiver's timeout log.
Since v0.13.0
Good to know
Diagnostics report the timeout cause; this release does not claim to fix Wi-Fi channel coexistence failures.
Move an existing Apple AirDrop identity into 1Password and reuse it across receiving windows.
ExperimentalSince v0.13.0
Good to know
Requires 1Password app/CLI integration and driver 0.7.0; does not obtain an identity from Apple. PR #19 still lists live 1Password-backed Contacts Only acceptance as pending verification.
Update the plugin, run `omarchy-restart-shell` and `omdrop install-driver` for driver 0.7.0, then turn receiving off and on if it was running. Update the driver before moving an Apple identity into 1Password.
Action requiredAffects: Existing installations upgrading to v0.13.0, including driver 0.6.3-1 or 0.6.4 users.
Since v0.9.1, identity files live in `~/.omdrop/keys`. If `~/.omdrop` is absent, existing OpenDrop keys are copied once and the originals remain. `omdrop on` refreshes the receiver service without a separate setup command.
Behavior changedAffects: Users with an existing identity in `~/.opendrop/keys`.
v0.13.0 makes protocol dumps opt-in. `omdrop send --verbose` writes to `$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/omdrop/debug`, with certificates and validation records replaced by their size.
Behavior changedAffects: Users collecting AirDrop protocol dumps for troubleshooting.
If 1Password is unavailable, locked, or dismissed, the receive window uses a self-signed identity and reports the fallback; sending to Contacts Only recipients remains unavailable until a window has the Apple identity.
Exchange files with nearby Apple devices from an Apple Silicon Mac running Omarchy.
Details
Grouped initial tags v0.1.0–v0.13.0 add panel and command-line sending, timed receiving, known-sender controls, and link handlers. Later tags fix setup and transfer failures and add optional 1Password identity storage.
Also: Choose trusted senders, send multiple files, open shared web links, and optionally keep an existing Apple identity in 1Password.
Install v0.13.0 with Omarchy's plugin manager on supported Apple Silicon Broadcom AWDL hardware; requires driver 0.7.0 and python-libarchive-c. 1Password integration needs its app and CLI plus an existing Apple-issued identity.
